Stephenie Meyer nasce in Connecticut nel 1973, maggiore di tre sorelle e tre fratelli. All'età di quattro anni si trasferisce a Phoenix, in Arizona. Frequenta la Brigham Young University a Provo, in Utah, dove ottiene una laurea in letteratura inglese. Incontrò il marito Pancho in Arizona e si sposarono nel 1994. Ora vivono insieme ai tre figli, Gabe, Seth, ed Eli. La Meyer sostiene che l’idea per la trama di Twilight le è venuta in sogno, il 2 giugno 2003. La trascrizione del sogno è ora il capitolo 13 del libro. Il seguito di Twilight, intitolato New moon, è uscito in Nord America a partire da agosto 2006 ed in Italia il 27 aprile 2007. Il terzo libro della serie, Eclipse, è stato pubblicato in America ad agosto 2007 ed è uscito in Italia il 16 novembre 2007. Il quarto libro, Breaking Dawn, uscirà negli USA sabato 2 agosto 2008. Stephenie Meyer ha detto che ci saranno anche più di quattro libri, solo che il narratore potrebbe cambiare. Se pubblicato, Midnight sun il quale, più che un seguito, sarà il primo episodio (Twilight) raccontata dal punto di vista di Edward Cullen. Il primo capitolo può essere letto sul sito dell'autrice. Stephenie Meyer ha acquisito un enorme numero di fan grazie ai suoi romanzi incentrati sull’amore tra Isabella Swan ed il vampiro Edward Cullen. I romanzi sono ambientati nella piccola cittadina di Forks, nella Penisola di Olympia, stato di Washington. Grazie a Twilight e New moon, la città di Forks ha ricevuto un’insolita attenzione. Numerosi fansite sono apparsi al fine di indurre i fan a dividere il loro entusiasmo per Edward e Bella, e per il mondo di vampiri “moderni” creati dalla Meyer. La Meyer inoltre dice di non poter scrivere senza ascoltare la musica e che le sue fonti di ispirazione sono i principalmente i Muse (di cui compaiono parecchie citazioni) seguiti da Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, Coldplay, The All American Rejects, Travis, The Strokes, Brand New, U2, Kasabian, Jimmy Eat World, Weezer.
